School mourn loss of 'enthusiastic and friendly young child'
DALBY State School are mourning the tragic loss of Prep student Shykarn, the four-year-old boy who passed away yesterday evening after being hit by a van on Drayton St Sunday night.
In a statement released by the Department of Education, principal Mona Anau described Shykarn as an 'enthusiastic, pleasant and friendly young child'.
Shykarn was flown to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in a critical condition after the accident, and remained in a critical condition until his passing.
Ms Anau said Dalby State School has been rocked by the news, with counselling being offered to both staff and students.
"The Dalby State School community is deeply shocked and saddened by the death of one of our students,” Ms Anau said.
"The student was an enthusiastic, pleasant and friendly young child who will be greatly missed.
"Our thoughts and sincere sympathies go out to the family, caregivers, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
"Support is being provided to students and staff, and guidance counsellors will remain at the school to provide support in any way they can and for as long as it is needed.”
