Dalby teenager earns first-class call up for Fire

CRICKET: Dalby’s Ellie Johnston became the latest young gun on the Downs to make her first class debut.

The 18-year-old was a late addition into the squad following an injury to Laura Kimmince, and was subsequently given the green light in the final XI.

She joined Toowoomba’s Georgia Voll in the team for its WNCL clash with South Australia at Allan Border Field.

Batting down the order at eight, Johnston was dismissed for two runs, while Voll as opener scored four boundaries in her knock of 21.

The pair backed it up the next day at club level, with Voll scoring a 50 for Sandgate-Redcliffe in the Katherine Raymont Shield.

Johnston took a wicket and scored 52 runs for Ipswich against the Gold Coast at Ivor Marsden Park.

DOWNS TRIO HELP BULLS TO VICTORY

The Queensland Bulls scored a thrilling three-wicket Sheffield Shield victory over Tasmania at Blundstone Arena.

Brendan Doggett finished with five wickets for the match, with Mark Steketee and Jack Wildermuth both taking four.

Wildermuth also added 30 runs in the second innings as the Bulls came from behind to win.

All three are in the squad for today’s one-day fixture against the Tigers.
