Coast firefighters battle large blaze in horror conditions

BREAKING: Fire crews are battling a grass fire at Widgee north of Noosa as the region's national parks and state forest camping grounds have been put on high alert.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews are at the blaze burning near Gympie-Woolooga Road and O'Donnell Road which broke out about 3pm.

At this stage there is no threat to property, however smoke is affecting the surrounding area.

Residents have been warned to close windows and doors, and keep medications close by if suffering a respiratory condition.

Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions and anyone who feels their property is under threat should call 000 immediately.

The QFES and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service crews were also monitoring a bushfire burning north of Wathumba Road near Orchid Beach and Waddy Point on Fraser Island.

The fire broke out several weeks ago and continues to pose no threat to property although nearby residents and holiday-makers may be affected by a smoke haze.
